What You'll Need

  • Your laptop or phone
  • The provided 3.5mm to RCA aux cable
  • Bring your own 3.5mm to USB C adapter (most of the time there is one in the studio, but people take them all the time, but we do have some for sale in the lobby)
  • Yamaha MG12XU 12-channel mixer

Quick Connection Steps

Using the 3.5mm to RCA Aux Cable

  1. Locate the 2TR IN jacks on the mixer
    • Look on the top-right side of the mixer for the red and white RCA inputs labeled "2TR IN"
  2. Connect the RCA ends of the cable to the mixer
    • Plug the red RCA connector into the red (right) 2TR IN jack
    • Plug the white RCA connector into the white (left) 2TR IN jack
  3. Connect the 3.5mm end to your device
    • Plug the 3.5mm end into your phone's headphone jack or your laptop's audio output
  4. Set up the mixer
    • Find the "2TR/USB" knob in the STEREO MASTER section (top-right area)
    • Turn this knob up to about "5" or "7" to start
    • Make sure the STEREO master fader is up (usually set around "0" or "U")
  5. Play audio from your device
    • Start playing music or audio from your phone/laptop
    • Adjust the 2TR/USB knob to increase or decrease the volume
    • Use your device's volume control for additional adjustment

Tips for Better Sound

  • Start with your device volume at about 75% and adjust the mixer's 2TR/USB knob for best results
  • If the sound is distorted, lower your device's volume
  • For phones: Turn off any EQ or sound enhancement features for the cleanest signal
  • For laptops: Close other applications that might produce unexpected sounds

Troubleshooting

  • No sound?
    • Check that the STEREO master fader is up
    • Verify the 2TR/USB knob is turned up
    • Ensure your device isn't muted and volume is up
    • Try a different cable if available
  • Sound in only one speaker?
    • Make sure both RCA connectors are fully plugged in
    • Check if your device is set to mono instead of stereo
    • Verify that both speakers are properly connected to the mixer
  • Buzzing or interference?
    • Keep your phone away from the mixer (especially if using cellular data)
    • Try disconnecting and reconnecting all cables
    • Make sure the cable isn't running parallel to power cables
